My name is Jess, and I am the blogger of this blog. I live in Sydney, Australia, with my husband, H, daughter, May Blossom, son, Garnet, and cats, Gusto and Leonard Cohen. I am a fiction writer by profession, a mother by occupation (which makes it sound like my children invaded my life and rule it tyranically … which is only sometimes how it feels), and I keep Instagram in business.
I’ve written two novels (funny, heartwarming ones), called This Has Been Absolutely Lovely and How To Be Second Best. I’m working on another, with an equally wordy title.
I had a jumping castle at my wedding and plan to be shot out of a cannon after I die, to the soundtrack of ‘Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone’ by Glass Tiger, a song composed almost entirely of upwards key changes. That sort of sums me up.

Thank you, Anon. I didn’t really mean I wanted to be shot out of a collection of great books. Nor out of a photocopier. Neither would be half as spectacular as being shot out of a cannon. I have fixed it now.

I recently listened to your book How to be Second Best on the Bolinda app and absolutely loved it. It was funny, endearing and heart warming. It is a great story with such amusing characters. I’ve not laughed so hard in a long time while trying not to wake my sleeping husband. I really loved how Emma grows as a person and really enjoyed the part where she finally sticks up for herself to Helen at Troy’s birthday. You must feel very proud of your book and all your hard work. I can’t wait to read more of your stuff!
